WLD are ready for 3D Secure 2

3D Secure 2 (3DS2) is an authentication protocol designed to reduce fraud, increase customer security and reduce merchant liability to chargebacks. The new protocol is being launched on 16th September 2019.

What fraud protection measures do we currently have?

Unlike other dating platform providers, we have already implemented 3DS1, a security measure adding an extra layer of fraud protection. We’ve been successfully operating with this for the last 8 years so are already well prepared for 3DS2.

What is 3DS2?

3DS2 is an evolution of what we already have in place and will mean that when a member tries to upgrade they will receive a notification on their phone, a text or need to utilise a card reader. 3DS2 is much more frictionless than 3DS1, and will cause less disruption to the user experience.

We specifically expect less friction on mobile payments. As mobile usage accounts for around 70% of our Partners dating businesses we’re positive this will be a further step towards reducing scammers payments and fraud elimination as they will no longer be able to get past the two-factor authentication.

A reduction in scammer payments should result in a better reputation and subsequent acceptance rates which will further give us a potentially increased conversion rate.

3ds2-image3DS2 was designed after the rise of smartphones and makes it easier for banks to offer innovative authentication experiences through their mobile banking apps. Instead of entering a password or just receiving a text message, the cardholder can authenticate a payment through the banking app by just using their fingerprint, or even facial recognition.

We expect many banks to support these smoother authentication experiences with 3DS2.

What does this mean for you?

As a result of our efforts to seamlessly implement 3DS2 we anticipate an increase in acceptance rate due to increased positive reputation with banks.  There will also be no impact to existing rebill payments on the White Label Dating platform.
