New Year, New Beginnings

As the New Year draws in, it’s time to start planning for 2013. We review the last twelve months and share a few words of wisdom.

It’s been a bumper year at and 2012 has seen a number of big developments across the platform, as we continue our endeavour to make online dating a fantastic experience for our members.

We’ve seen the birth of the mobile platform which has made dating-on-the-go even easier, with mobile revenue growing a staggering +717% since launch earlier this year.

The stellar, herculean project that was ‘Cities’ also saw our database populated from just 199 regions to almost 90,000, enabling members to find each other even faster than before – equalling higher conversions.

The development team have consistently worked hard to improve our platform, cooperating closely with our dedicated team of User Experience Designers. In March, we opened the doors to our London office in a bid to help us attract and retain the best tech talent. In addition, we held a number of Hack Days – letting our developers take a day off from project work to flex their creative muscles and think up their own innovative new solutions for the platform. The first of which inspired the Cities project!

We’ve already stressed the importance of starting the New Year with clout; Google advise that dating desktop search queries increase by an impressive 32% in the first two weeks of January alone, with a comparable 25% uplift on mobile. Google’s key recommendation for January campaigns? Up your spend. Start the year off as you mean to go on and give your campaigns that vital boost they need.

Two years ago at the Annual Partner Conference, a bronze partner sat at a table next to COO and Co-Founder, Steve Pammenter, and said: ‘Next year, I want to be a gold’. One year later, he sits in the top tier of site owners, as a gold partner. This proves that with persistence, commitment, momentum and the support of your Partner Manager, every online dating business has the potential to become a wild success.

The poet Emerson once said, “When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object.” And we couldn’t say it better than that.
