First Impressions of Life at White Label Dating…

This week Matthew Pitt our new Operations Director, provides us with his first impressions of working here…

A wag once said that you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. True enough but those same initial impressions can change and alter with time. Arriving at Global Personals Ltd as its new Operations Director on 4th January, I must confess I joined forearmed; my initial impressions of the company already primed via awareness gained from working in the online dating industry over the previous three and a half years.

These impressions were further re-enforced via a series of high profile and prestigious awards that Global Personals won at the back end of 2010. When companies like Deloitte (Technology Fast 50) and The Sunday Times (Fast Track 100) single out an organisation for praise and public recognition
of its growth and success, you know that they (and let’s not forget the partners) must be doing something right.

So almost one month in and I was asked to write a short piece on my ‘first impressions’. Was my perception of the company from the outside, accurate once viewed from the inside?

I’m sorry to have to report that the answer is no.

It’s not that my ‘first impressions’ were incorrect… far from it, they were actually very accurate. Where I was woefully inaccurate in my ‘outsiders assessment’ however was in underestimating the sheer scale of the business, the breadth and depth of the quality and skillset of the people working
here and quite staggering revenues the business is generating for our partners.

It’s not often that you get a second chance to amend your first impression, but in this instance I’m happy to have been given the opportunity.

All things considered, I think 2011 is going to be a highly interesting year!
