Three SEO strategies to put into practice today

SEO is changing. What worked for your business previously may no longer have the same effect in 2014. To be successful, focus your energy on brand building, mobile optimisation, content marketing, and social media marketing.

1. An effective search strategy has three pillars. These are links, content, and social media marketing. Create content that’s relevant to your potential visitors; a refined and closely-targeted content strategy should successfully increase your registration rate. Using social media channels to complement your content marketing activity will amplify your reach and build your brand; social sharing signals also tell search engines that people find your content interesting. If you don’t have the time to create quality content, use a site like People Per Hour  and hire a writer to do this for you.

2. Mobile optimisation is fundamental to your success. If your site isn’t mobile optimised, you will find it very difficult to achieve a good search ranking. This should be high on your priority list in terms of user experience primarily. Searches from mobile phones and tablets account for almost half of UK search traffic and this figure continues to grow. Target your content, and ads, to the context and behaviour of mobile users. This is a great read on how to create a good mobile content strategy.

3. Social media channels are important. Google relies increasingly on human signals in the form of Likes, retweets and social media shares to rank the quality of your sites. It’s worth noting that not every type of dating niche works well on social media (casual dating, for example, is a tough market to crack). Think about which channels will work for your brand. This article is a good place to start.

If you think social media marketing is right for your business, put together a basic strategy beginning with sharing your own content. Remember, social media channels are not just a tool for SEO – if you really want to amplify your reach, you need to engage with your audiences; it’s about give and take.

4. Last but not least, make quality your priority.
