PM Tips: Are you Mobile enabled?

For all new partners, setting up a mobile version is a standard requirement for any site launch. The mobile capability is built into the site creator tool in the Partner Portal. (It’s step 5, in case you were wondering!) However, this hasn’t always been the case. When the mobile platform first launched, the first few batches of mobile sites were created manually by our in-house development team. The addition of the mobile site creator in the Partner Portal came in April this year, when enabling a mobile optimised version of each site became a required step to launching a site.

More and more people are using mobile devices to access the internet and it’s now the expectation that every site across the internet is compatible with mobile. Dating is no exception; people want to access their profiles on the go, as you may remember Kabs told us in his blog ahead of the August Bank Holiday. Dating-on-the-go means that not only members can use your site anywhere at any time, but also have the option of being more discreet.

In light of some recent research, we were surprised to find that a select number of sites running on our application were doing so without being optimised for mobile. Considering that 36% of all registrations in September came from our mobile platform and that 16% of all initial revenue stemmed from mobile sign ups, mobile optimisation is an opportunity not to be missed.

Whilst this should only be applicable to much older sites, you can check to see if your site has a mobile optimised version and setting up a new site easily within the Partner Portal, by following these simple steps.

  1. Log in to the Partner Portal. On the dashboard, there will be an overview of all of your sites. If your site doesn’t have a mobile site, there will be a tab on the right hand side of the site name, saying “create mobile”. (See the below screenshot as an example).
  2. If your site isn’t mobile optimised, all you need to do is create one logo. The logo should be 560 x200 pixels, in .PNG format.  Upload the logo to the mobile site creator tool when prompted. You can then preview what your mobile site looks like by selecting a theme, icon colour and customising the highlight colours. When you’re happy with how your site looks, you can submit it for approval. Your Partner Manager can then review the mobile site and set it live.

To ensure that your site is delivering the optimum user experience for your members, make sure your site(s) are set up on our mobile platform today. If you have any queries at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your Partner Manager who will be happy to help.
